Yet Another (Late) Update

117 Training Bus
2012 Proterra BE35 EcoRide #117, seen on a Training run.

Was my last entry really two and a half months ago?  Yikes have I been slacking.  But that’s only because work on the extra board never ends.  We had Fiesta in April, and in early May the summer signup began.  The downside with the new signup is that work has slowed down drastically.  That meant I got my two days off, however I used that time to catch up on other life activities.

A Quick Update

2006 New Flyer D40LF #328, heading to Garage after complete route 68 Guadalupe.

(Looks back at last blog post date) Wow, it was really that long ago?  Well life has been super busy with me, working the extra board and trying to handle family time as well.  Luckily not much has been happening at VIA, but that might change soon.

New Year, New PRIMO!

978 nova lfs (9)
9/2018 Nova LFS CNG BRT-style #978.  On display at VIA’s 2019 Bus and Van Roadeo.

Happy New Year everyone!  2018 was very interesting for me as a bus operator, and I’m sure 2019 will bring even more exciting changes.  And right off the bat are the January 7 service changes, which include a new PRIMO route.

VIA Update October 2018

339 5 (06) McCullough (1)
2008 New Flyer #339, on layover at the SA International Airport on route 5 McCullough.

I know, I know…. it’s been too long since my last blog update.  I know I said the workload was slowing down, however things came up which made me busy.  I won’t get into detail on that, but I will on what’s happening at VIA.

Bus Fleet Update 7/2/18

871 NABI (1).jpg
Bus 871 is seen sitting outside of the graveyard waiting to be picked up and sent to scrap.  It was listed as a non-running unit.  On its last day of revenue service it broke down on route 4.  Instead of fixing the problem, it was quickly retired.

Wow, it’s been a while since I wrote anything.  Long story short it’s been really busy at work.  The hours are long but it’s still a fun adventure.  Anyways at the beginning of June I saw something very odd in the bus yard: and brand new Nova Bus LFS CNG #693, freshly delivered.  When I saw that bus my heart sank, as that meant the contract with Nova was NOT cancelled.  After asking around the office I found out that it’s confirmed that the contract was never cancelled, and it was just a rumor spread by some drivers.  That means once all of the diesel buses are finally retired it will be nothing but Nova’s (not including the specialty buses like PRIMO and VIVA).

The NABI’s Are Invincible!!!!!

20180424_184024_HDR.jpg
4/2017 Nova LFS CNG #678

I already know what you’re thinking: why is the cover photo for this blog a Nova bus and not a NABI?  For starters, I don’t have a NABI photo available right now (at least from today’s adventures I don’t).  And second of all, this bus ties in with today’s sightings.

VIA Bus Observations: Week of 4/8/18

866 Out of Service.JPG
2001 NABI #866 seen Out of Service near Crossroads P/R.  Photo taken on August 10, 2017.  This bus is currently in storage but not retired yet.  And it still has that wrap on it.

Another week has gone by so quick that I barely recall what happened at all.  Luckily, I write everything down day by day so I can go remember the week’s events.  And it has been a very interest week of weird bus sightings.  Let’s get to it:

VIA Bus Observations: Week of 4/1/18

255 14 (02) Perrin Beitel.JPG
2003 New Flyer D40LF #255 on route 14 Perrin Beitel / Naco Pass.  This bus was retired in summer 2017 and was sent to scrap in early 2018.

It has been a long month since graduation from the driver training program at VIA.  So far it has been a blast, driving different types of buses and routes every day.  Luckily for me everything has been running smoothly.  The only exciting things that have happened are 2 bus breakdowns, one for loss of air and another for suspension issues.

Specialty Bus Training Days 6 & 7: PRIMO

20180302_122833_HDR.jpg

It’s been a pretty good week doing training on the specialty buses in the fleet.  I was pretty much excited to train on every bus so far (with the exception of the trolley), but only one bus remained in the fleet: the NABI 60-BRT CNG.
